EXPECT A SHARP PACQUIAO ON JUNE 9

By Eddie Alinea

LOS ANGELES,Cal. (PNA) -- An extremely happy and contented World Boxing Organization welterweight titleholder Manny Pacquiao is what the entire universe will see when the Filipino ring icon stakes his 147-pound division crown against American challenger Timothy Bradley June 9 (June 10 in Manila) in the gambling city of Las Vegas. Nevada.

“Yes, I’m very happy and contented nowadays, no problems whatsoever and hope to return home to our country still a champion,” Pacquiao declared in Tagalog Wednesday during his expectedly tumultuous media day session at the Wild Card Gym in downtown Hollywood here.

“This is the first time in my boxing career that my entire family came to my training camp to show their support for me in this fight and that alone makes me more than happy that will inspire me no end in defense of my title,” the 33-year-old eight-division belt-owner told this writer in a separate interview prior to a short workout before a huge crowd of international media men and supporters that filled the Vine St. sweat shop.

The Pacman was referring to wife Jinkee who arrived here last Sunday with children Jimwell, Michael, Princess and Queennie in tow. Jinkee and brood even came in full force Tuesday to watch Pacquiao punished regular sparring mates Ruslan Provodnikov, Kevin Hopskin and Roger “Speedy” Gonzales.

“Of course their unprecedented presence, most especially my children, elated me no end as this marks the first time that all of them appeared in my training camps before,” he said with eyes glowing with elation.

“Sino ba naman ang hindi magagalak na makita na ang maybahay mo at lahat ng anak ay personal na sinusuportahan ka. Nakakataba ng puso, di ba?, ” Pacquiao, a self-proclaimed changed man and a Bible-reading disciple and preacher, said.

“As I have been saying, I’m now clean in mind, heart and body and I feel very very good. First time na nangyari ito sa aking preparasyon na wala man lamang bahid ng problema. Pakiramdam ko kaya kong lahat gawin ang gusto kong gawin na walang anumang makahahadlang,” he said.

Informed of Bradley’s pronouncement of his capability to wrest the title from his more celebrated foe, Pacquiao retorted: “I’ll rebuke him na lang in Jesus’ name. I respect Bradley as a fighter, I respect his capability to win as he did in his previous unbeaten 28 fights.

Roach, for his part, agreed that his ward of 11 years could be unbeatable as he looks forward to improving his rather lackluster performance against Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez last November when he only settled for a majority decision to defend his title for the third time.

“Manny’s very happy and when he’s happy, it spells disaster to whom he is fighting,” Roach assessed even as he admitted Bradley’s durability and toughness. “This is a fight between one guy who is strong against one guy who is fast.”

Roach laughed off copies of the CD titled “Pacquiao-Bradley II” showing him announcing that he will give Pacquiao a rematch that were distributed during the media day session.

“He (Bradley) is in no position to say that,” he said. Besides, why spend so much money for that CD. That’s a lot of b…s …t,” he said chuckling.

Pacquiao’ promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, for his part, said he’s never seen Pacquiao so relaxed as now. “Pacquiao vs. Bradley is a fight fans fight.” Both fighters will come to fight. Expect a non-stop action when they meet on June 9.”

“Bradley is very good when I saw him training, but Manny is sharp, very sharp. I believe because his family is here rooting for him,” the Hall of Fame promoter said. “Manny’s spending more time with his family. He’s changed a lot really.”

“While before, after training he would go somewhere else and staying late coming to the gym lacking in sleep. Now, he looks so fresh every time I see him in the gym,” he said.
“I think he really enjoys Bible-reading and preaching,. It’s good not only in his spiritual life but in his profession as a boxer as well.”

Arum dispelled reports that ticket is not doing well, saying on the contrary, tickets are selling like hot cakes. This early, only about 1,500 tickets in all levels aren’t sold yet. Meaning 14,500 of the total number of tickets printed had been sold.”

PACQUIAO MEETS THE LA PRESS CORPS

By Ed de la Vega, DDS

Filipino congressman and boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao today met the Los Angeles Press Corps for the final time leading to his fight with challenger Tim Bradley at the MGM Grand on June 9th.
Everyone who is part of the “who-is-who” in the corps was there.

What was most evident for this training camp was the fact that Pacquiao seems to be so relaxed at this stage of his heavy training. His body language and demeanor was far cry from what the press saw before his fight with Juan Marquez last November.

After individually meeting the corps as he went around the ring, Pacquiao had a few rounds hitting the mitts with his trainer, Freddie Roach.

His conditioning coach, Alex Ariza was as his corner too. In fact he initiated today’s training by helping Pacquiao do some stretching exercises.

The young Filipino conditioning coach, Marvin Somodio was there as well but was not involved in the exercises. But he was always next to Roach getting tips on how to go about the routines in the gym.

The Philippine press corps was well represented with GMA’s Chino Trinidad and ABS-Can’s Dyan Castillejo and the Big Three, Nick Giongco of the Bulletin, Abac Cordero of The Phil Star and Roy Luarca of the Inquirer.

Of course big US based news organizations were well represented. We saw the folks from ESPN, HBO, AP, Reuters as well as the LA Times.

Pacquiao winds up training on Saturday, June 2nd and will travel by land to Las Vegas on Monday, June 4th.

Manny Pacquiao: Divide in gym 'not a problem'

By Lance Pugmire

It might be stifling hot in the glorified broom closet where Manny Pacquiao wraps his hands and changes into training gear, but there's a chill elsewhere at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood.

Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach is not pleased with Pacquiao conditioning coach Alex Ariza.

Roach, perturbed at Ariza for leaving Pacquiao during the early portion of their training camp in the Philippines, has mentioned the possibility of a future without Ariza on HBO's "24/7" reality series. Boxing regulars take note, as Roach has, that Ariza has appeared to overstep his role in the corner of Pacquiao and in perhaps seeking to publicize himself.

Ariza on Wednesday declined to comment about any friction, saying he'd been told by Pacquiao to keep quiet.

Clearly aiming to lower his profile in the HBO drama, Ariza has regularly been wearing a black T-shirt in the gym promoting rival network Showtime's "Fight Camp 360" show that previewed Pacquiao's May 2011 fight against Shane Mosley.

"I think this is not a problem," Pacquiao said Wednesday. "I told Alex to read the Bible, and he's reading the Bible everyday. If you read the Bible everyday, you understand ... love and patience."

While Pacquiao's training has been defined by his newfound intense devotion to religion, Roach chafed at Ariza for departing the Philippines to reportedly work with another Roach-trained fighter, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Ariza, however, might have been tending to his now separated relationship with former light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan.

Ariza contends he only left the Philippines with Pacquiao's blessing. Ariza now supervises Pacquiao's conditioning down to the finer detail of preparing the welterweight champion's dinner each evening.

If he had to choose between Roach, who Pacquiao has referred to as his "master," or Ariza, Pacquiao didn't answer.

He said he's aware of what's happening in camp, adding, "I'm the one who makes the decisions."

Pacquiao: It's really important I boss Bradley

by:ESPN staff

Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao's trainer, is confident that his charge will put on an eye-catching performance against Timothy Bradley on June 9.

Pacquiao has not fought since edging an unconvincing, and highly controversial, points decision against Juan Manuel Marquez last November.

That performance raised question marks over Pacquiao's claim to the crown of boxing's pound-for-pound king, and it is likely that Bradley, who is still unbeaten, will test his credentials further next month.

Promoter Bob Arum has wondered aloud over whether or not the Filipino is fully focused for the Bradley bout, with religious and political concerns occupying his time, creating another reason for anxiety among his fans.

But Roach is not worried - instead, he feels that Bradley's style of fighting is going to be tailor-made for Pacquiao to showcase his abilities.

"The way Bradley is going to come forward and force a fight, we're going to see a great Pacquiao," Roach said. "Bradley's a tough guy, very resilient. But being a tough guy doesn't win fights."

Pacquiao added: "It's really important [to make a statement] because, of course, everybody knows my last fight was very close."
